The Namibia Scientific Society invites you along with your family and friends to an evening of stargazing at the Cuno Hoffmeister Memorial Observatory, just south of Windhoek. This guided excursion (in English) is ideal for those who would like to learn more about the wonders of the fantastic night sky in the southern hemisphere. The primary focus will be some deep-sky-objects such as nebulae, globular cluster, star clusters and double stars.

The evening starts in the lecture hall with presentations that will give background and insight on the objects. Questions and answers can be in English, Afrikaans and German.

The price includes a Schnitzel Brötchen, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and guided star gazing. Please bring your own soft drinks if required.

Most important: take warm clothes and a wooly hat or beanie; we shall spend most of the time outside!

20 participants only. Kindly confirm your participation as soon as possible by sending your booking form for Friday or Saturday.

Please note that we could cancel the event at short notice by latest Friday, 28 June 2024 at 11h00, due to the persistence of clouds or rainy weather. Costs will then be refunded in full.

Please note: The opinions expressed during presentations, films or events are not necessarily by the Society.

Drive along the national road B-1 in the direction of Rehoboth. Shortly before you cross the first bridge, turn left into the road D1504 towards the Harmony Centre (you will see a big sign board).
