A lecture series of the Scientific Society Swakopmund called “The long road to Namibia—The making of a Nation“ was held in 2019 and 2020 to celebrate 30 years of Namibian Independence. This written version of the lectures makes the interesting accounts available to a wider audience.

Well-known Namibians who participated in the making of Namibia, both, in leading up to Independence, and during nation-building afterwards, relate their experiences inside Namibia and in exile, and the many role they have played.

Read the reflections of veteran parliamentarian Anton von Wietersheim, the Honourable Speaker of the Parliament Prof. Peter Katjavivi, veteran community activist Bob Kandetu, director of the Namibia Institute for Democracy Naita Hishoono, Ambassador Trudie Amulungu and her husband and former United Nations Institute for Namibia teacher, Wilfried Brock, and director of the Geological Survey of Namibia, Dr Vickey Do Cabo.

We hope that this booklet can be a small contribution to the making of our Nation. May namibia go from strength to strength!
