Namibia Scientific Society kicks off funding campaign for new library building

On 12 April 2025, the Namibia Scientific Society kicked off its centenary activities with a celebration at Droombos.

In front of over 250 members and invited guests, the concept for a new library building was introduced by Rowan McNamara from McNamara Architects Inc.

To summarise:

  • Our library desperately needs more space! In fact, it is actually overdue! Projected over the next 20 years, the additional space required will amount to about 400m², which coincides with the maximum allowed capacity of our premises.
  • To expand our library facilities to this size, we have to keep all our current parking lots to adhere to building regulations of the municipality, which leads to this concept for expansion.

While we are fully convinced of the utmost importance of future-proofing our library, which is renown as one of the most extensive collections regarding Namibia worldwide, it is needless to say that such an investment substantially surpasses the financial means of the Society.

We would like to appeal to our members, friends, and the supporters of the Namibia Scientific Society to assist us in preserving the cultural heritage and scientific knowledge collected at the Society over the last century.
