Astro News March 2026

  • 25 February 2026

March brings a quieter planetary sky for Namibia, as Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn linger near the Sun and remain out of view, but Jupiter shines brightly in the early evening, reaching its highest point around 20:20 CAT and ending its retrograde motion on 11 March. A total lunar eclipse on 3 March sadly won’t be visible from Windhoek, but early risers may catch a glimpse of comet 88P/Howell low in the dawn sky with binoculars. The month also marks the March equinox on 20 March, welcoming autumn to the Southern Hemisphere, while our constellation spotlight falls on Lepus, the celestial hare resting beneath Orion in our summer skies.
