November’s night sky in Namibia features planetary encounters and a deep-space milestone.

Mars and Jupiter make a close approach on November 16, passing within 1°11' of each other in Leo, near the star Regulus, in the pre-dawn sky. Saturn dominates the evening, reaching 66° above the northern horizon at 21:46. Venus returns to the dawn sky, while Mercury passes between Earth and the Sun and stays difficult to spot from Namibia.

On November 18, Voyager 1 is expected to become the first spacecraft to reach a distance of one light-day, or 24 light-hours, from Earth.

The Objects of the Month section explores asteroids, comets, meteoroids, meteors and meteorites, with a look at Namibia’s Hoba and Gibeon meteorites and the Roter Kamm crater.
