Since 2020, the German Bundestag has offered a one-month scholarship programme for talented, young graduates from South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. now the East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have joined the group of participating. The programme is aimed at scholars who are interested in politics and who wish to make an active contribution to democracy and a vibrant civil society in their home country, after completing the programme. The core of the programme is a one-week internship in the office of a Member of the German Bundestag. The programme provides a compact introduction to parliamentary democracy and the functioning of the German Bundestag. Other topics include pluralist society, minority protection and culture of remembrance as a political task. A workshop on project management will help the participants develop their own project ideas with the aim of promoting democracy and civil society in their respective countries of origin. Since 2020, several young Namibians have had the opportunity to participate in this programme. As part of the German Weeks 2023, they will share their experiences with other interested young people as well as the general public.
