The Embassy of Finland, together with the Finnish Southern Africa Cooperation Institute (FSAI), FinNam Research Academy, and the University of Namibia, will be hosting two scientific symposia at the Namibia Scientific Society next week. Both events bring together Namibian, Finnish, and international experts to share knowledge and strengthen research cooperation.

Day 1: HPV Symposium

Theme: Epidemiology and Prevention of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Related Cancer
Wednesday, 22 October 2025 |  09:00–16:45
The symposium will explore HPV biology, vaccination programmes, and treatment options, featuring both in-person and online presentations from researchers across Africa and Finland.
A panel discussion will conclude the event, focusing on strategies to eradicate HPV-related cancers.

Day 2: AMR Symposium

Theme: Antimicrobial Resistance – A Global Problem from the African Perspective
Thursday, 23 October 2025 |  09:00–13:55
Experts from Namibia, Finland, and Germany will discuss the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), including surveillance systems, the One Health approach, and prevention strategies.
The programme concludes with a roundtable discussion on implementing best practices to combat AMR in Africa.
