Adolph Jentsch, einer der bedeutendsten Landschaftsmaler des südlichen Afrikas, schenkte kurz vor seinem Tode dem Autor eine Zigarrenkiste, die 58 Postkarten nach seinen Ölbildern enthielt. Über Jahrzehnte in der Kiste verwahrt, überdauerten diese die Zeit und stellen heute einen Ausschnitt seines in dem Atelierbrand von 1974 großteils vernichteten Ölbild Oeuvre dar. Das Buch gibt einen Teil dieser Bilder-Postkarten nebst malphilosophischen Gedanken des Malers wieder.

Fritz Krampe, a restless spirit and possessed by wanderlust, has probably roamed the wide-open spaces of Africa like no other artist before him. He left behind a comprehensive oeuvre with his interpretations of impressions gained through observation. All his life, he made every effort to experience the true essence of untouched nature, its wild animals roaming freely and to seek encounters with the still unspoilt peoples of Africa.

John Ndevasia Muafangejo (1943–1987), Namibia’s most acclaimed artist alongside Adolph Jentsch and Fritz Krampe, gained worldwide recognition during his short and intensely productive career for the power, uniqueness and immediacy of his vision. Peter Strack hat in mühevoller Arbeit, versehen mit vielen farbigen Abbildungen der Gemälde/Zeichnungen, Briefen, Tagebuchaufzeichnungen den Versuch gewagt, ein abgerundetes Bild von Fritz Krampes Leben und Werk zu erstellen. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll Krampes Afrikaperiode von Anfang 1951 bis Ende 1965 beleuchten. Zum besseren Verstehen müssen jedoch auch einige einschneidende biographische Lebensabschnitte aus der Zeit davor und danach aufgezeigt werden. Möge dieser reichhaltige Fundus weiteres Interesse an dem Künstler und Menschen Krampe erschließen.
