The Sheltering Desert
The Sheltering Desert tells the true story of two German geologists, Henno Martin and Hermann Korn, who fled into the Namib Desert during World War II to avoid internment. Living in the Kuiseb Canyon for over two years, they survived by hunting and gathering, while recording their observations of the desert. The book combines adventure and survival with reflections on nature, war, and human civilization.
